Using specialized forestry equipment that can be adapted to the urban/ wild land-forest interface we masticate (mow/chip/shred) fuels and reduce the potential for catastrophic wildfire while creating defensible space and shaded fuel breaks.
This treatment reduces fire intensity, increases wood decomposition, and opens up the canopy and forest floor, promoting healthier forest environments. The USFS highly recognizes mastication as an ecological treatment of choice in many settings. Sierra Land Improvement has treated by mastication, thousands of acres in the Sierra Nevada and throughout Nothern California

In collaboration with local, state a federal agencies, such as Cal Fire, Sierra Land Improvement is trained in the safe removal of post-wildfire hazards such as hazardous trees, ash, and other debris posing risks to health and safety. We have provided this service in the immediate recovery during the Camp Fire and Dixie Fires. This requires mitigating risk while wildfires are still being battled. Hazard trees damaged by wildfire are a safety risk for 5 or more years after a wildfire event.
